Model: Deco P9
Hardware Version: V20
Firmware Version: 2.4.15

I just bought a Deco P9 system because it got good ratings and it has parental controls, but after testing, the devices that are set to block adult content are NOT blocking at all - even with the Child category on. I've read some posts here and I see a number of people have the same issue.

Can someone help me with the configuration? This is really troubling as it was one of the primary reasons for my purchase.

Also, is it possible to enter DNS settings, such as OPEN DNS? I could do that with my Linksys router.

Finally, is the only way to configure the router with an app? I like to have a web-based portal, like most routers, so that I can change settings from my laptop.

@Pocket-Sevens Thanks for that, but it's not clear how to set the DNS settings in the app or if it's possible?

@alemieux34 Hey there.  I found this online on how to set the DNS.  My Dad also got new Decos and he did this and it worked.

https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1855/

Choose the level of protection you want (Famly, Adult, or Security) and enter the IPv4 addresses for the appropriate level of protection.

@alemieux34

In order for the parental controls to kick in the browser can't have saved data or cookies or cache info in the browser being used. Once those are cleared try visiting a site again to verify it has been blocked.

When setting up the profile for specific devices, make sure those devices are not capable of changing their MAC address:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211227

If you want to change the DNS address, that can be done by going to your IPv4 settings: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/1600/

Configuring the Deco app can only be done in the app, there is not a way to make changes via the web browser.

@Tony I'll try to clear cache and retry. I read up on the MAC address switching and the reason why iOS devices do it and it sounds like a more secure thing.

As for the DNS settings, I was hoping to find an area where I can add 3 addresses. I can do this in System Preferences > Network > Advanced on a Mac. I don't think I want to change Internet Connection Type, right?

@alemieux34 Hey there.  If you're still having problems, you can set the DNS for the decos to Cleanbrowsing.  i use that DNS with my decos.  Here is a link to their information:
