Model: Archer AX3000
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.6?

I need to figure out how to setup my new AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 router to be only a 2.4GHz access point.

Desired setup:

xFinity Router <------->AX3000 2.4GHz WiFi <-----2.4GHz WiFi clients

The AX3000 should appear as a static IP (reserved on the xFinity), and just pass packets to/from the WiFi to/from the wire.  The xFinity router handles all DHCP leasing, the AX3000 does no leasing and no translation.

Do I choose static in tether, and plug the wire from the xFinity Router into "LAN1" to get this configuration?

I don't know if there was a more straight forward way, but I managed:

  • Connect Ethernet cable to WAN port of AX3000 and LAN port of xFinity router
  • Connect iPhone to TP-LINK_B568, pw: from bottom of unit
    or TP-LINK_B568_5G
  • Open Tether App, add device, WiFi Router, AX3000
  • Auto Detect
  • Changed pw
  • (Set up 2.4GHz WiFi, turned 5GHz off, but may not have been needed here - perhaps was a way to cancel
Connect iPhone to new WiFi SSID if changed,
May have to add device again)
  • Once logged into the router, click Tools at bottom of Home Screen
  • Select Operation Mode -> Select Access Point
  • Set up 2.4GHz WiFi, turned 5GHz off
  • Reboot as requested
  • Connect iPhone to SSID 2.4GHz in settings
  • Open Tether App to view clients ( Only iPhone on WiFi and xFinity Router on Ethernet)
All other wired and WiFi are pass throughs
  • Two IP/MACs show up connected to xFinity router by cable:
10.0.0.XX (Reserved) MAC: XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX  ?? not sure what this is ??
10.0.0.XX (Reserved) MAC: YY:YY:YY:YY:YY:YY  (on bottom of AX3000)
