Archer CR500 randomly reboots after Xfinity speed was increased
My Xfinity service was increased from 400/10 to 600/20 and ever since it changed my gateway will randomly reboot at least once a day. Before the speed increase I never had this issue. Nothing at all was changed on my end (nothing added, nothing removed, etc).
I understand that the CR500 isn't able to handle the 600 download (when I do a speedtest I get around 500 down) the upload is fine as it's always 20+. My signal levels are within spec as shown below:

@Carl My plan is for 600Mbps download and 20Mbps upload. I don't need DOCSIS 3.1, but if I wanted to future proof I could.
I went with a Arris SBG7400AC2 DOCSIS 3.0 which handles 24 downstream channels and 8 upstream channels.
I got my Archer CR500 unregistered from my account and now have the Arris. First speed test I got was 704Mbps down and 24Mbps up with like 11ms ping. This was setup Monday and so far no issues like random reboots etc. I got it on ebay for around $55.
I'm thinking the 600 down on the CR500 was overloading it and causing the reboots. Though that gateway says its only for 373Mbps yet my speed test I was getting high 400s, low 500s.

Very likely its the new service package. At the speed you are now on you likely need a Docsis 3.1 modem. What could be happening is that the service is detecting that your modem is not provisioned properly and is sending a signal to attempt to provision it. This signal reboots the modem, but doesn't resolve the issue since its a Docsis 3.0 modem. When it comes time for the service to check the process repeats. This of course is just my educated guess but makes the most since. You can of course confirm with the ISP as they will most likely know better than us regarding the service and why the modem is triggering a reboot.
A recommendation for a new modem is the SB8200 by Arris. You can pair that with our new Archer AX4400 WiFi 6 router for a future proofed network.

That 300 Mbps is just the limitation the ISP puts on the gateways. Even the CR700 was limited to 300 Mbps because it was a 16x4 Per the specification at 16x4 Channel Bonding delivers download speeds up to 680 Mbps. We really had no control how the cable devices were allowed to function on the ISPs networks, they really controlled it all. They set bandwidth limitations, they controlled the firmware upgrades, then even to some regard limited the features on the gateways.
In my cable speed packages above 300 Mbps require a Docsis 3.1 modem, so that is where that piece of information was coming from. I assumed since the Big three did that here that they all did it and it was the same over the country.
Glad your system is working as it should if you need any product recommendations in the future let us know. We would be happy to help.
