This is because of the technology behind range extenders. They do not typically increase speed. The sole purpose of a range extender is to improve range. Extenders work as half-duplex devices. This means it can only transmit in 1 direction at a time. Either to/from the router or to/from the client but not both at the same time. Because of this speed can be and often is reduced up 1/2 the regular connection speed of the area where the extender is placed. This is also one of the reason we suggest placement in a area with a strong signal that is between the Router and the area where service is needed.
