Hey,

I am using an old asus router in AP mode.  the issue is I have no parental controls when connected to this AP but I get parental controls when connected to the TP wifi router.  is this normal?  Is the TP router not able to perform parental controls via the AP router?  I thought the router being in AP mode meant the main router would handle all traffic.

  @Rsan,

This appears to be the expected operation of the parental controls when using an Access Point. I would assume that this would be due to the main router not being able to properly identify network devices due to how APs work. The differences for TP-Link routers when put into access point mode, which should be the same for other brands are:

Router Mode Wireless Access Point Mode

Parental Controls

Yes

No

Access Controls Yes

No

Bandwidth Controls Yes

No

QoS Yes

No

NAT Forwarding Yes

No

IPv6 Yes No
VPN Yes No

LED Control (Night Mode)

Yes Yes
Time Settings (NTP Server) Yes

Yes

WiFi Schedule Yes Yes
Auto Reboot Yes Yes
USB Sharing Yes Yes
Guest Network Yes Yes
