AXE300 v1 vs v1.6
What is the difference between v1 and v1.6?
They require different firmware so there is obviously a hardware difference. What exactly was changed in v1.6?

The firmware for these two versions is identical, in fact, the firmware files are interchangeable unless otherwise indicated. By default, we list each hardware version separately, even if it shares the firmware with other versions.
Oftentimes, these smaller incremental updates are simply the result of a change in the manufacturing location or minor optimizations.

@Riley_S great! i have the wifi6E extender v1.6, on the tether app, it said firmware is up to date with build 20220902. but on the website, there's a update firmware, when i click on extender v1.6 download, it shows firmware for hardware v1.0. if i update this v1 firmware for my v1.6 hardware, it wont brick my v1.6 extender?

While I cant look up the exact model with the info you gave, every firmware download page where these situations apply will have a discalimer posted:
- Please verify the hardware version of your device for the firmware version. The wrong firmware upgrade may damage your device and void the warranty. (Normally Vx.0=Vx.6/Vx.8 (eg:V1.0=V1.6/V1.8); Vx.x0=Vx.x6/Vx.x8 (eg:V1.20=V1.26/V1.28)
How to find the hardware version on a TP-Link device
If a specific firmware is not compatible with another hardware version, or cannot be downgraded; there will be an additional note added to the firmware's patch notes that will state the incompatability
