How are the antennas arranged in the AXE5300 routers?
How are the antennas arranged in each cylindrical shaped router? What would typical patterns of wi-fi signals look like when dispersed throughout a two story home when the router is placed on a cabinet in the middle of the first floor?

The Decos are meant to operate as central nodes that propagate the signal in every direction but straight down into the cabinet. The setup that you described would be ideal - as you will see the greatest distance on a horizontal plane, with a bit lesser of a signal being broadcast vertically.
Mesh nodes are slightly different in the way they operate, as they are not technically single points that will broadcast, rather the node will want to connect to or see the other nodes to create a mesh network; this means that you do not really want to place the nodes at the maximum distance, rather give a satellite node a strong signal to the main network.
For your setup specifically, you will simply have to test the signal at the far corners and the second floor. Your experience will highly depend on your environment, such as how many and how thick the walls/floors of your home are.
