Unchecking "Allow Pings from the WAN Port" has no effect even after a reboot. I can still ping my WAN IP. I need a reason not to send this thing back for a full refund by tonight...

The model no. of your router is Archer AX50, right?
May I know if you were trying to ping the WAN IP from local network or from external network? and did you enable "Allow Pings from the LAN Port"?
