Strange Discord Shenanigans over LAN - Unable to connect to US Central Discord Voice Servers
I'm tearing my hair out trying to troubleshoot this and haven't had much help from Discord.
New Archer BE800, loving it. Mac Studio is ripping it with the 10Gbe and my gaming computers at 2.5Gbe. I have this one issue and that's literally it, intermittent connectivity in Discord. It's not the intermittent connectivity you're thinking of though, I'm just fine on other voice servers like Atlanta / US East / US South / etc.
The thorn in my freakin side at the moment is US Central. Any server within the US Central Region acts like it's connected but it's dead. No voice audio but I can watch people streaming if they're doing so. I show one red signal bar, and after a few moments 5000ms ping. This is exclusive to US Central even though I can ping / traceroute it. The weirdest thing about it too is that it's only doing this when connected via LAN. When on WiFi it's no issue at all. Issue can only be replicated when behind the router and it is not exclusive to one computer. When I bypass the router and connect straight to my ISP (Fiber Optics Terminal outside the home that has a patch cable ran to it) the issue doesn't appear.
I've tried port forwarding and even putting my computer's LAN connection in DMZ on the router with no change. The craziest thing I've seen is when I tinker with ALG settings. I'm not NAT'd by my ISP and as such I have SIP ALG on. When I toggle one of the VPN passthroughs (PPTP / L2TP / IPSec) off it flippin works for a brief moment and then dies again. Toggling it back on restores it as well.
I'm at my wits end trying to troubleshoot this. I'd appreciate if I could get some input on the above to try and solve this. WiFi isn't a terrible work around as I get 1Gpbs 3ms-10ms Latency but I'd love to have my 2.5G back for file transfers.
