Model: Deco
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.2.1 Build 20230601

I have a new Deco XE75 wifi router connected to a Spectrum ET2251 modem.  About 3-4 times per day for the last couple of months, the Deco status light turns red and I lose internet connection to everything on the wifi system.  The status light on the modem say its functioning normally.  The Deco usually comes back online after a couple minutes if I dont touch anything.  I called Spectrum and they said everything looks normal and that they dont see any modem downtime recorded.  The Deco is new because I used to have an Orbi that did the same exact thing and I thought that replacing it may fix the problem.  I also just replaced the modem and all wiring inside the house, but none of this helped.  Is there a setting on the Deco that may be causing this issue?  I have ran all updates on the Deco and modem.

@Raptor1976 Based on the fact you're mentioning your previous router did this, what country do you live in?
A lot of countries don't support 160MHz band for GHz wifi band and tend to force channel width down to 80Mhz.

Also if you're near an airport, they claim it interferes. So try changing your channel width to 80Mhz and see if the problem continues. It's not optimal, but it helps to figure out what exactly is happening.

@WYLDSTALLYNS From what I can tell, since this is a mesh system, I dont think I can change the channel width, correct?

@Raptor1976 I'm having a similar issue with Charter Spectrum. At least 3 times a day the Deco drops the internet connection and shows a red LED. If I let it sit a while, it comes back but that could be 30 to 45 minutes. If I force a reboot and reboot the modem, it seems to come back right away. I never had this issue with my old Linksys router so I'm wondering if the Deco is doing something. I downloaded the logs that I can provide when this was happening just around 2pm CST.

@Jdelbs18 I had an Orbi mesh system before the Deco.  Did the same exact thing.  I thought the Deco would get rid of the problem, but it hasnt.

You should be able to, for example here's what mine looks like.
Do you live near an airport? I doubt it, but they have been known for overtaking channels.

@WYLDSTALLYNS Im about 30 minutes from MSP, so I dont think that would make a difference.  Thanks for the screenshot...I switched it to 80.

@WYLDSTALLYNS So I switched this to 80 last night and it's still dropping.  Happens every couple of hours for about 2-3 mins.

@Raptor1976 Hmm, sorry to hear that didn't work, but I figured it was a shot worth taking.

But you mentioned this problem occurred with your last modem also? Which is why I wonder if the problem is its environment.

A little surprised the mods haven't tried jumping in.

@Raptor1976 just an update. I always forget to do this with a new router system but historically Spectrum DNS is absolute trash and I remebered this as I was looking through all the settings. I had the default AUTO DNS and it was to Spectrum's servers. Changed it to CloudFlare's DNS (1.1.1.1) or you can do Google's if you want (8.8.8.8) and rebooted. The last 2 days now I haven't had a drop yet. Try this and give it a bit. I'm not writing off Deco just yet but I remeber something similar happening before I changed DNS to my servers a long time ago. Hopefully I don't get any drops by the end of next week. If all is good, then it was just Spectrum's poopy DNS. smiley
