I just bought a brand new BE800 and I am having really bad Wifi issues... check the screenshot out... it seems like its capped its too smooth like its being capped... I have ATT fiber at 2.5 Gbps this is worse than LTE... anyone have any clue what the hell is going on? I have tried every single thing. QoS is off.

  @spacepirate13,

Firstly, is your Archer connected to a Gateway or Modem, with the former being able to provide a Wi-Fi connection.

Are you able to test the speed with a wired connection? This would provide a better indicator of whether or not the router is receiving a larger portion of the signal and it is just being lost.

I would recommend changing out your Ethernet cable to make sure that there are no faults. I would also recommend checking the WebUI of your router to see what speed was negotiated with your ATT modem.

Lastly, I would recommend trying the other WAN port on your router if you are using an ethernet connection.

  @Riley_S

Hi Riley_S,

Thank you for your response. Yes BE800 is connected to a fiber modem from ATT, its on passthrough mode. I was able to test the speed with wired connection and that works as expected.

I have tested wifi with my old Nighthawk

do you know which is the SFP that is compatible with BE800 so I can bypass ATT hardware?

Something is up with Wifi on this router from all the testing I have done...

Thanks for the Info @spacepirate13,

What type of devices are you performing the wireless test on? Can you provide more information such as their OS version, model and distance from the router during tests? Does this behavior exist across all your wireless devices?

Have you tried to perform a wireless test using different bands (2.4/5/6GHz), or via your Guest Network?

If smart connect is enabled, try disabling this setting and testing the signal across the different bands.

What DNS service are you using? Do you have any parental control profiles set on your router?

I would highly recommend looking at the channel settings between your Nighthawk and Archer to see if they are different.

---

Lastly, most SFPs depend far more on the compatibility of the stick and your ISP.

The SFP+ Port is for SFP+ ONU sticks (PON Sticks) - It is recommended to get in contact with your ISP or their sites to see if they provide a list of compatible SFP+ sticks.

Thank you very much for your help! I ordered a "compatible" SFP and will wait to get that and re-test... I'll get back on here once I have done that. Thank you!

  @spacepirate13  How far away from the router are you when conducting the test?  Are you connected to the 2.4Ghz, 5Ghz, 6Ghz or 6Ghz network?  What type of device are you using for the wireless test?  Those speeds are close to what one might expect for a 2.4Ghz wifi connection.  Do you have Smart Connect or MLO enabled under WiFi settings?  I played around with MLO with non-WiFi 7 devices and it didn't work well at all so I disabled that option.Are you on the latest firmware?

  @Jstewart0131

Yeah I tested with all kinds of devices, iPhone 13 promax, iPhone 14 promax, Macbook pro m2 max with 6E wifi. macbook pro m2 with regular wifi, windows machine with Wifi6 card. MLO on and off, SmartConnect on and off, Flow Control on WAN on and off, Flow Control on LAN on and off. and the results are all over the place.. i run a continous ping to google and sitting next to the router for 15 min and latency jumps from 9ms to 110 to 30 to 10 to 150 to 44 - just all over the place...

the ONLY thing that looks like it does anything is the WMM enable/disable.  if I disable WMM it goes to worse than a freaking 2004 Edge speed.  if I leave it enabled its a little bit better... I am on the latest firmware available on the website.

this does not happen with my nighthawk or the ATT provided router.

  @spacepirate13 Is the wired connection fully stable?, do the pings fluctuate like they are on the WiFi side of things.  I know at one point I struggled with what turned out to be a poorly terminated wall jack in my office.  The connection worked perfectly fine with my gigabit router/switch but I had all kinds of issues when trying to run 2.5G ethernet to my main PC.  Turns out there was a barely connected termination on one of the outside pairs of the female ethernet port in the wall jack that would work sometimes and other times kick me down to 100mbit half duplex.  I changed ethernet cables, re-terminated the RJ45 on the end that connected to the router all to find out it was the jack in my office.

Is your ethernet connection to the WAN staying stable?  Is it negotiating a 1Gigabit, 2.5Gigabit, or 10Gigabit connection to your ATT ONT?  What model is the ONT btw?

  @spacepirate13 Don't bother with purchasing an SFP module. At&t gateways has the authentication key baked into the unit. This is what I'm able to get over wifi using Samsung Fold 5 connected to the BE900. I did have the BE800 and was able to get similar results.

  @spacepirate13

I am still not getting those speeds that you are getting but I can almost get 800 up and down... I did purchase the SFP and yeah there was no luck with ATT getting the router provisioned on their network... I think they just gave me the run-around, im betting if I had business class they would.. I am hoping maybe they fix it with a FW update. I got a new modem from ATT too and new fiber installed... I switched encryptoion to only WPA2 and it seems a little more stable than when mixed WPA2/WPA3 or even WPA3 by itself..

I wanted to get the 900 but its been out of stock for ever...

this is my speed with my right next to the router
