Hi-

I have had the Deco AXE5400 Base plus two hubs for about a month.  Easy set-up and great speed throughout the home (using wired backhaul).

The pathway to Deco is: Comcast/Xfinity coax cable to Arris TM822G modem (just modem not a router).  Deco base plugged into modem.  Deco acts as the router, and is also  plugged into an unmanaged switch. Extension hubs are plugged into ethernet from switch.

Twice in the last month it has had all 3 Deco units go solid red with no internet even when the internet modem shows connection.  Even after power cycling modem and router, no internet.  Pressing the reset button on Deco units put them in setup mode, so the last time the only solution was to delete and then reinstall the network and Deco units.  Took about 45 minutes to get everything running again.

My readings of this forum and others is that the problem may be MAC binding by Comcast/Xfinity, and I see the process to completely power cycle the modem with the coax disconnected to clear the cache.  I also see the process for MAC cloning in the DECO app.

I ask these two questions about my next steps:

1. If I do the MAC clone process, will this ensure that the Deco network will be able to see the internet the next time there is a modem outage?

2. Or will I have to do this long inconvenient process each time the modem loses the internet connection?

When I am traveling, it is impossible for me to get the family left at home to perform such a complicated process.  I need a solution that will work going forward.

Thank you for any help anyone can offer.

You can clone the Arris TM822G modem MAC to your main Deco but that may not be the real problem.

What make and model is your unmanaged switch ? There are known issues when using D-Link switches with Deco - details.

Thanks for the reply.  The switch is Netgear GS324.  For clarity, you think that the MAC Clone should fix the problem and not need to be repeated every time the power goes out or the modem loses the internet for a minute?

Also, can I figure out what MAC to clone to in the Deco app since everything is working now? Or do I have to hook up my laptop directly to the modem to see the correct MAC?

No, I've meant that if you even clone the Arris MAC address to your main Deco unit that may not fix your issue.

But that shouldn't stop you from doing this - clone the Arris MAC and check how it goes.

Another problem may be the connection between Arris and your main Deco unit (cabling issue, loose ethernet port, etc.).

How to configure MAC clone on Deco - here.

If you want to try with Arris MAC address it's most probably on its bottom sticker or you can find it in it's Arris WenGUI WAN port status.
