How Do I Change the Network/Operating Mode? What Should I Be Aware Of?

You can switch between the different modes with the switch on the side of the device. After moving the switch, the device will take a few minutes to reboot into another mode, and you will need to log into tplinkwifi.net to configure the device to the new operating mode.

 

What Advanced Functions are Available with Each Mode?

Router Mode: USB sharing / Parental Control / QoS / VPN Client / VPN Server / Security

Hotspot Mode: USB sharing / Parental Control / QoS / VPN Client / VPN Server / Security

AP/RE Mode: USB sharing / Security

Note: USB sharing function cannot be used in USB Modem Mode/USB Tethering Mode.

 

Can my Cell Phone be Used as an Internet Provider?

Yes, you will need to use the USB Tethering Mode. This may require an additional data plan or may incur additional charges from your cell carrier for tethering another device to their network.

 

Can I Connect the Travel Router to a Portal Wi-Fi (Network with Built-in Login Screen/Redirect)?

Yes, however you will need to set the travel router to Hotspot mode. Range Extender and Client Modes will not work.
