Model: Deco X50
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 2.0.9 build 20240718

When my X50 was installed a Guest Network was set up for all my devices that needed 2.4GHz. I have since learned about IoT networks and would like to have all these 2.4GHz devices use the IoT network instead of the guest network. It is cumbersome to have to switch from the main network to the Guest network every time I want to access my Sonos system for example. It was a real pain to connect all these devices on the guest network when repalcing my old router with the mesh 6 system, and I was hoping to avoid going through that again. Would it be possible to somehow suspend the Guest Network and then set up the IoT network with the same name as the Guest network ?

Just change the SSID of the guest and IoT networks to move devices. You might end up having an IoT network named guest something, but that's a minor annoyance.

@larsvi Thanks for your response. I am a bit of a novice when it comes to mesh networks and am not entrely clear on how to implement your suggestion. Are you saying to name the IoT network the same as the Guest Network name so they will both have the same name at one point in time? Do you then change the name of the Guest Network to something else? Thanks

I recommend first changing the SSID (network name) of the guest network. After that, please enable the IoT network and assign it the same SSID and password as the guest network.

For example:

If the guest network's SSID was "dog," you would change it to "cat" and maintain the same password, which is "12345."

After making this change, enable the IoT settings and configure the SSID as "dog" with the password "12345.

Need help with the Deco app, setup, Ethernet backhaul, network switch or rolling back firmware? https://community.tp-link.com/us/home/forum/topic/699816?page=1
