Firmware Version:

751d13e81954414bab01f1de15962490Hi there,

I connected my Deco to the modem/router provided by my ISP. I then setup the system and switched to access point mode. The app shows it all as functioning, see screenshot, however as you can see it shows no clients connected. Did I do something wrong? I am watching my smart tv in basement and it is closest to my Deco in basement not the main rotuer upstairs. I'd expect to see this in client list, or my basement Alexa, or something else.

Main questions

1) Why is my correctly setup Deco systen in Access Point mode showing no clients--I'd think one of the near 50 things connected to my primary modem/router shown in Smart Home ATT app would be conneting to one of the Decos? My understanding was I'd see the clients connected to any of Decos AND my original router/modem. Is this incorrect? If not incorrect, why don't I see my clients like I do in ATT Smart Home app?

2) When I tried to turn off my existing routers wifi I lost internet to all my devices? Does this mean I did something wrong with access point? Following these instructions "When using Deco with your existing router, it is recommended that you disable the existing router's WiFi network and use Deco's WiFi network instead to reduce interference." I named my Deco samething and same pw as my other router.

I appreciate the help.

  @Thewilsons99 Anyone? If on Access Point but not showing any clients is something wrong? As you can see its green and running properly.

  @Thewilsons99

Sorry for the late reply.  It looks like 2 devices are connected to the basement...

It seems the other two do not have any clients.  If not done so already change to WPA2/WPA3.  (This I find provides the most compatibility).

Is this AT&T fiber service?  If so you have which Residential Gateway model?  I have my BGW320-500 set to IP Passthrough to my BE95, which I set to Router Mode.  (Something to consider trying).

  @Thewilsons99

If you want to benefit of a Deco mesh, such as transparent roaming, your devices should connect to the Deco, not to other access points.

Hence you should certainly not use the same wifi name for the Deco mesh and for other access points.

By naming your Deco "samething and same pw as my other router", you confuse the devices.

.

I am surprised that your devices did not promptly connect to the wifi of the Deco after you turned off my existing routers wifi.

  @jzchen

i appreciate response. I have the same att router. I was advised to use it as access point but your saying its better to just setup in router mode and go through inconvenience of reconnecting all devices to the new deco network?

if I were to do that, I would need to put my att mode to pass through and/or turn off the wifi?

If there aren't many clients connecting this means the deco is not being properly utilized right?

  @Thewilsons99 There is no reason to change the name of the wifi network of the Deco when you change its operational mode from AP to Router.

You can continue using the same wifi SSID/password, and you will avoid the inconvenience of reconnecting all devices to the new Deco network.

I do not believe that changing the operational mode of the Deco will help in your situation.
