ATT Fiber BGW320 - Has anyone truly been able to get IP Passthrough to work?
I bought the Deco routers to replace my aging Orbi routers which I had switched to being access points in the years past because they kept locking up.
My goal with this purchase was to use the Deco as my true router so I can have parental controls and change my DNS to an internal machine (PiHole) to block ads on the network.(The BGW320 does not allow custom DNS servers)
The problem I am facing is that the Deco router is not being given a true external IP address from the ATT Router, the "IP Passthrough" function does not appear to actually do anything.
On the BGW I have changed the following
1) disabled wifi
2) Turned off all firewall functions
3) Disabled packet filters
4) Enabled IP Passthrough
The Deco is still being served up a 192.168 IP address from the ATT router. Which is causing network slowness and the dreaded double NAT
Things that stand out
1) If you look online about this.... half of the posts say it's easy just set up IP passthrough. The other half say it's not possible.
2) I believe routers have 2 MAC addresses? The sticker on the bottom of the Deco state that the MAC address ends in "50" but in the BGW320 it sees it ending in "51". I've tried both. neither seem to work
Has anyone actually been able to get this to work? Or is it time to give up and return these Deco routers?

Update: Lost my public IP address on the deco after a power outage last night. was working great for 2 days straight and now I'm stuck being double NAT'd again.... I don't understand what's going on.
I rebooted the ATT router. No change

Apologies for all the updates/posts but I like good troubleshooting notes.
I unplugged the Deco router for 5 minutes, plugged it back in and got an external IP address.
- Thoughts, I have the ATT router has the DHCP lease on the "Passthrough DHCP Lease" set to 3 minutes. The Deco router reboots quicker than 3 minutes....
- Other thought - now that I have an external IP address... what would happen if I set the lease to 99 days (The max). Would theoretically keep the external IP for 99 days? I'm going to try it.

The IP address are pulled by the DHCP client (the Deco), they are not pushed by the DHCP server (the BGW). If the "Passthrough DHCP Lease" is set to 3 minutes, that means the Deco , after receiving an IP address, has to renew that lease before the lease expires, 3 minutes after reception.
Such a short lease is necessary in case the public IP address obtained from ATT is changed. When that address is changed, you want the Deco to promptly obtain a new public IP address. If you set the lease to 99 days, it might take 99 days before the Deco ask to renew the lease, and obtain a new public IP address.

Guess for now I will be just turning off the router for 5 minutes every time this happens... Hopefully not too frequently.
But if the Deco is asking for an IP super often but not getting the eternal IP.... where do you think the issue resides the most? to me, it seems like if turning off the Deco for 5 minutes resolves my issue then the problem is likely with the Deco software, not the ATT router.

Hence the Deco receives sometimes an "internal" IP address from the BGW. I assume that comes from the BGW, as it allows the Deco to communicate with Internet via the BGW.
The Deco would be responsible for that if it was not using the MAC address the BGW expects.
Is there a way to see in the BGW the set of IP addresses (and associated MAC addresses) leased by the BGW? Something like the list of clients of the BGW? I would expect the Deco to be the single "client" of the BGW.

Just 1 client listed in the BGW.
I factory reset the BGW at the begining of this process to ensure everything was cleared out and all my presonalization were removed.

@JDThreeee What does the BGW show about its clients when the Deco is running with a private IP address?
How does it compare to what is showed when the Deco runs with the public IP address?
The BGW should also have a "bridge" mode, perhaps you want to try that. In bridge mode, I understood the BGW is not manageable by ATT, but it might be worth trying that mode.
I do not know if you need to adapt the "internet connection" settings of the Deco when the BGW is in bridge mode.
