Model: Deco XE5300
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I have an XE5300/XE75 system.

Suddenly the internet went out. Deco reported it couldn't see the internet.

If I plug my laptop into the ONT via Ethernet, it works fine. Verizon insists that there are no issues with my account or my connection.

Here's what I did:

  • Turned off the satellite Decos and disconnected all wired connections to the base Deco except the cable to the ONT.
  • Rebooted the Deco and the ONT -> no internet
  • Changed the physical cable between ONT and Deco to a brand new Cat 6, Rebooted -> No Internet
  • Factory reset the Deco, went through the config process. It set up the network fine, but could not see the internet.
  • Removed the first Deco, then took one of the satellite Deco units and plugged it in to the ONT instead -> No internet
  • Factory reset the 2nd Deco, went through the setup process -> No internet
  • Pulled out an old Archer C9 router, plugged that in to the ONT via Cat6 -> still no internet! Factory reset too.

The only thing that has changed recently is that I installed a MoCA 2.5 wired backhaul. Diagram below if it's helpful. But it doesn't explain why the C9 still can't see the internet.

Verizon refuses to help me because they are blaming the router. But I find it unlikely that three different routers would suddenly find the connection is broken.

This is truly a wacky one. Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

  @Zudnic

Your laptop has access to Internet when wired into the ONT, hence I am assuming that the laptop receives a local IP address from your ISP.  Could you share the response to "ipconfig /all" from your laptop during that test?  Does the laptop obtain a public IPv4 and a publiv IPv6 address?

When the Deco is wired into the ONT, what do you see in More / Internet Connection (for IPv4 and for IPv6)?  What is the Internet Connection Type?  Do you see an IP address?

Some ISP are sensitive to the MAC address used by the device connected to Internet.  Sometimes they discover the address used, and do not accept serving any other MAC address.  If this is your case, and your ISP accepts only the MAC address of the laptop, you could assign that MAC address to the Deco, via More / Advanced / MAC Clone.

Do you have a second laptop you could use to test?

  @yves_b Thank you.

This morning, I took a 2nd laptop and connected it directly to the ONT. It did not connect to the internet.

I then tried the 1st laptop, the one I used yesterday. It didn't connect either.

Rebooted the ONT, same results.

Now I'm second guessing myself as to whether it worked the first time...

From just now:

I don't think it's the MAC address, since it's not connecting with at least three devices.

  @Zudnic Some ISP require specific settings to connect to Internet.

Monday

Closing the loop on this in case anyone finds it later.

This turned out to be an ISP issue. In the end I needed to reboot the ONT. However I was impatient on the reboot and didn't wait long enough for it to establish a connection.
