BE63 as APs.. 2.4 sometimes goes away
Coming from Eero 6+ had three of those (since late 2023) and was going to add more, but thought this might be a smarter move.. now not so sure..
I know a wired backhaul would be the best, but the Mrs and I cannot find places that both of us can be happy with the locations; so wireless mesh for the forseeable future seems to be the way..
The boy (20+ yr old..) just moved downstairs; college student, teams, blackboard, meet, and personal discord are his requirements.. (deans list multiple times in a row.. which is why the Deco's happened.. wanted to try and help )
No devices are wifi7, we're four adults in the house with iphones (2-3 years old), few chromecast ultras, few google nest screens, half dozen wyze cameras, washer, dryer, etc.. < 50 devices..
I have a USG gateway, and put the Deco's into AP mode and swapped out the 2.4/5 for the same name, had the 6 and MLO enabled.. things worked seemed to be a flawless swap.
Randomly the google home screens will say there is no network, spotify will randomly not sound correct for a moment.. the Google devices will clear themselves up.. and the cameras sometimes are not available..
I tried pushing those devices to 2.4 but it didn't seem to change anything.. if anything it may have made it all happen more frequently..
I tried moving the Deco's last night and will see how it goes this week..
We only have a 300/30 DOCSIS, (already updated the modem to an sb8200 about a year ago)
I did change the 5Ghz to be 80Mhz wide to try and get a stronger signal.. There is far greater signal coverage with the BE63's than the Eero 6+'s, and I did not have the ability to change any channel width with the Eero's in AP mode..
I'm assuming the 2.4 40Mhz is the backhaul, but cannot confirm. I have disabled the 6Ghz and MLO to try and free up any interference.. which didn't seem to make a difference either..
Open to any suggestions or questions about using the BE63's in mesh mode as AP's.
I got the Amazon sale/set of 3 for < $450 and a payment plan.. but the 6+'s are now also on sale.. and a two pack would be about $180
The Main BE63 is centrally located, I was able to pull a cable into a closet from the attic, where the modem is in the garage..
The other two nodes are registering as having 'Strong' Signal and say they are each connected to the Office_957A (2.4 Ghz/5 Ghz/6 Ghz)
Under wifi settings
2.4/5 is enabled. 6 and MLO are disabled as is the 'IOT network' (again AP mode - that didn't make sense..)
:dunno:
Thanks in advance.
