My computer says that I am connected to the internet via the RE650 extender, but when I try to reach a website, I get the error message saying that I am not connected.

This could indicate that your host router is blocking or filtering the MAC address of the Range Extender. You can test this, especially if MAC filtering is enabled by setting a black list or disabling the feature, while you test.
