Hey Everyone,

We're pleased to offer a pre-release firmware for the RE655BE V1. This update aims to address concerns regarding MLO in AP Mode. This phenomenon was first mentioned by heffeque in this thread.

This Article Applies to:

RE655BE_V1, RE653BE_V1

Phenomenon Description:

When the RE655BE or RE653BE is in AP mode and MLO is enabled, wireless client devices may be disconnected.

Workaround:

For users experiencing this phenomenon, we recommend trying the following Pre-Release Firmware to address the behavior.

Firmware Download:

Before Upgrading

(1) Saving a copy of the router's Backup Config file is always recommended before upgrading or downgrading.

 Hi @LWM

Welcome to the community.

I checked with our teams, and they confirmed that the RE655BE and RE653BE share firmware compatibility, so you can feel free to test this pre-release firmware on the RE653BE.

  @Ryan  Thanks. I was hoping that it would work on the RE653BE but unfortunately it refuses to upgrade.  It upgraded fine on my two RE655BE's.

The RE653BE doesn't receive the the correct 2.4 GHz channel width assignment from my BE9300 router while in mesh mode.  It sets up a 40 Mhz channel width rather than a 20 Mhz channel width like the main router and the two RE655BE's do.  I was hoping this firmware might fix that.  You can see in the image the LWM ssid's.

  @LWM

I'm thinking that while the overall firmware platforms may be compatible, specific firmware updates (and in this case, a pre-release firmware) may perform more stringent model checks when attempting to upgrade, which could potentially limit beta or pre-release firmwares to have compatibility with their respective models only, like in your case with the RE655BE vs. RE653BE.

That said, I appreciate the specific context regarding why you wanted to try this pre-release firmware on your RE653BE. Since yours is an unrelated phenomenon, I would recommend creating a new thread so we can keep the discussion focused on your specific concern regarding the 2.4 GHz channel width.

I'll share your feedback with our teams to get the ball rolling on our end as well.

Thanks @Ryan. I posted the issue and added a 6 Ghz channel quirk on the same device that I am seeing and may be related here: https://community.tp-link.com/us/home/forum/topic/832646?page=1

Edit:  Deleted, Issue resolved.

  @Ryan ,

I have deleted my post about this issue.  We lost power last night and when I checked things this moring they were all working as they should.  Perhaps unplugging all devices for a period of time might have cleared up things as well.  Thanks for your help with this.

  @LWM

Thanks for the update! I'm glad to hear all is resolved after power cycling (inadvertently, in this case).

I'll be sure to share this feedback with our teams as well.

  @LWM

Thanks for the update, and for the added context sent via PM.

I'm happy to report that there's a pre-release firmware available for the RE653BE now as well. I've updated the original post in this thread to include a download link. Feel free to take it for a spin and keep me posted whether your RE653BE's channel width behavior persists.

  @Ryan

Thanks for the preview firmware for the RE6553BE.  I installed it and after rebooting the channel width issue reapeared.  Unplugging the ethernet cable for a minute or two clears up the problem until the next reboot at which time the issue reoccurs.  Here are screen shots of the channel graphs that illustrate the problem with the other ssid's in the area filtered out.
