Model: Deco XE75
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.2.14

I have a wifi mesh network with 5 Deco x55/60 routers. The 'main' router is a Deco x60.
The main X60 is assigned a static IP of x.x.x.1. The Deco DHCP has several reserved addresses; It connects to the cable modem.
PCs on the newtwork have network connections with a 'default route' of x.x.x.1

I have a new Deco XE75 and want it to replace the current x60 'main' router.

I think I need to do the steps listed below.  Can someone verify the steps..and the sequence for doing them?

Or - Is there a simpler way to do this?   THANKS

  1. Power off all Decos.
  2. Remove the current Main X60 and disconnect the cable modem..
  3. Connect my PC to the Deco XE75 with an ethernet cable, and assign a static address of x.x.x.1
  4. Manually add the DHCP reserved MAC addresses.
  5. Connect the Deco XE75 to the cable modem. Power on.
  6. Connect my PC to it and verify wiff and Internet working. Verify Deco app works.
  7. Power on the other Deco units.
  8. Use the Deco App to 'change Main router' to the new XE75.

Not sure if the steps above will work or not. I know of two ways to switch out one deco for another, You will find both options below. Option #1 is from tp link and sometimes it works and sometimes not so much

I know option two works because I had to do it when option one failed me,

Configuring multiple models of deco units to operate concurrently.

If you have multiple models of Deco units, it is recommended to designate the new model as the primary Deco and the older models as secondary units.

There are two methods to achieve this. Regardless of the option you choose, please ensure that your network is configured according to either the first or second examples in this image: https://static.tp-link.com/upload/faq/image-20240329074344-12_20240329144345n.png.

**Option #1 (Not recommended)**: For guidance, please refer to the following link: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/2400/.

**Option #2**:

1. Reset all of your Deco units by pressing the reset button on each one.

2. Using the Deco app, set up your newest Deco as the main unit. Since you have factory reset each unit, you will be able to use the same network SSID and password as before.

3. Once the newer model is operational, return to the app and add the remaining Decos to your network.
