Wi-fi printer goes offline then online
Wi-fi printer goes offline then online
Tuesday
Model: Deco X55
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.6.7

I'm running Mac OS 15.6.1 and an Epson ET-3850. The printer and Mac are no more than 20 feet from the Deco main router. The Epson will print just fine, but five minutes later it has gone offline. Sometimes it will come back online by itself after a few minutes. If it doesn't I will delete the printer, reinstall it and then it will print fine again.

The 2.4 and 5 gHz SSID names are different, so I have to have them both on the same band, preferably the 5 gHz, but the issue is the same on both bands.

I honestly don't know if the problem is with the router, the Mac or the printer. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thank you. DG

@dgerety Epson has updated driver's that you may not have installed.  (I typically can not provide direct links at my level), so you will need to go to the Epson support page for the ET-3850 -> Downloads - select macOS 15.x (Sequoia) (pull down option) -> Drivers

You should have Printer Driver v13.26

and Scanner Driver and Scan 2 Utility v6.7.84

Based on the instructions you would have installed an older package dated 02/07/24, which would not include these.

Also try to check for a firmware update for the printer:

Applications -> Epson Software -> EPSON Software Updater (which may cover the drivers concern above)...

  @jzchen

Thank you. The printer firmware is current. The only recent driver at Epson was for the scanner, which I installed, though I can't tell if it's any newer than what is already installed. The printer is working at the moment, so I'll wait and see. Thanks again.

Re:Wi-fi printer goes offline then online
Yesterday

@PauMonreal Thank you, Paul. I've verified that all of the drivers and firmware are current. The printer was new on 2/7/2025 (this was never an issue with my Canon printer). I've also reserved the IP address, I think. I opened the Deco app, went to the list of all IP addresses, found the only one for Epson and clicked reserve. My Epson V600 photo scanner is off. I've switched my Mac and the printer to the 2.4gHz band, though very soon I'm going to crawl into the attic and run Ethernet from the Deco to my Mac. Even though the router is only about 20' from the Mac, the wi-fi is very inconsistent. If all goes well, I'll let you know. Thanks again, David.
