Hello,
I have a TL-WDR3600 (N600) dual band router. I am trying to use WIFI channel 1 on this router because every neighbor is using 11 and 6 already. I have set it manually to use channel 1 for the 2.4GHZ wireless and left the channel width to auto... Mode: 11bgn mixed. I am using Firmware 3.14.3 Build 151104 Rel. 44824n
The router when set to auto always selects channels 6 and 11, the same as all my neighbors...I would like to use channel 1. I have even tried channel 2 and 3...nothing.

I have a wifi program called inSSIDer that detects wifi signals, channels, ssid's etc. I can clearly see that there is no wifi being broadcast by the router on the 2.4ghz when I set the channel to 1, 2 or 3.. If I set it to channel 4 then it will work for 4 and 8.

The 5ghz is set to auto and has no issues.

When I set it to Auto channel for 2.4 it selects 6 and 10 but constantly drops out and comes back...over and over...when viewed with inSSIDer

That's the absolute correct behaviour. WiFi radios use a pulsed signal, not a constant signal. Analyzers capture snapshots and therefore can capture at a time where the signal from your radio is absent for a moment. Nothing to be worried of.

Just a friendly reply to this issue...It turns out that I had a TERK leapfrog LS-30S that I uses as a room to room transmitter for a Tivo Remote...Well the A/V Signal (that I wasn't using) is broadcast on 2.4Ghz...and it just so happened that it was completely washing out most of CH 1, 2 and 3 on wifi in a radius of who knows how far (at least 60 feet) . I took the unit apart and disconnected the antenna from the broadcaster and presto! Working WIfi...

I tried for 3 days to get ch 1 to work!!!

Many consumer devices utilize the 2,4 GHz band, e.g. DECT phones, bluetooth devices, baby phones, toy's remote controls, A/V transmitters and even microwave ofens. Such devices are often the cause for interferences on WiFi. Expect much more to come with the "Internet of Things", where each refrigerator, toaster, door bell and shaver will have a built-in web server and a WiFi adapter. ;)
