Hardware Version : V1

Firmware Version : 3.17.0 Build 20150514 Rel.70681n

I'm trying to upgrade the firmware of my Archer C9 V1 modem. Based on the information for the existing Firmware, I'm behind.

I've gone to this page: http://www.tp-link.com/us/download/Archer-C9_V1.html#Firmware and downloaded the new firmware (archer_c9v1_us-up-ver3-17-0-P1[20161008-rel64225].bin).

I've only got a wireless connection to the router, but I log into the admin account, select the Firmware Upgrade option under Advanced/System Tools, pick the new firmware file and hit Upgrade. The System tells me the Software Upgrade was successful, but when I log back into the system, the Firmware Version is the same (3.17.0 Build 20150514 Rel.70681n). I'd expect it to change to something like: 3.17.0-P1 Build 20161008 Rel. 64225.

What have I missed here?

Hi Jim, it's suggest to upgrade the firmware with wired connection.

Yup, but that's not the problem. I don't have a physical connection to the router and I'd rather not jump through those hoops. And that doesn't answer why the system says the upgrade was successful and yet the version doesn't change.

Thanks.

You can try to clear the browsing history on the browser to verify whether it's caused by the cache.
In addition, a successful firmware upgrade process includes uploading the firmware, upgrading and restarting. Have you seen all these three steps during the upgrade?

You can end up corrupting router firmware if connection is lost during upgrade.
I do not understand how you only have wireless connection. I have three Archer C9 V1's and all come with LAN ports.

Update initially worked for me, but I am now getting frequent disconnects and have trouble logging into router. I also cannot seem to reserve IP's as before. I never use functions like guest networks and QOS.

Following up on this post.

When I did the upgrade initially, I was using Microsoft Edge as my browser (It's my default, I'm happy with it, please share our browser insights elsewhere :-). I tried it with Firefox and it worked fine, first time.

So it seems like the browser version might matter, but I'm not bothering to debug beyond that.
