Model: Deco M9 Plus
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Hello, a basic feature of most routers with parental controls is to allow one to set a default profile for all new devices. I had assumed when I bought my new M9 Plus that this would be a standard feature, however, I can't seem to find it anywhere. Can you please tell me how to set the default profile of new devices? I want to block certain site classes for all guests on my network but I can't seem to figure out how to do so. This should also apply to the guest network as well.

@sr0001 The way our Parental Control works is you go to "More" which is located at the bottom right of the Deco app, then Parental Controls. That is where you create any profile you want which gives you the ability to place restrictions on content, amount of internet time, and when the internet will be denied for a time period. When a new device connects, you can then add that device to the profile by going back to Parental Controls, tapping on the created profile, then tapping on Devices below, you will see a + button on the bottom right to add which ever device has connected or is currently connected. You can also add devices that are connected to the guest network as well to which ever created profile you made.

I understand how it works, but what I need is the ability to set a "Default" profile to which all new network devices are added automatically. I shouldn't have to manually add each new network device to block things like pornography across the entire network by default.

If I may intervene, this is a feature you MUST include in the next version of the firmware/app (in my case for the M5). Without it the parental control is much weaker, as it seems that a new device is now granted,by default, no restrictions at all!! This makes little sense. Please consider this urgently.

I totally agree. It doesn’t make much sense to have this level of control without the ability to implement such basic automations as specifying a default for new devices.

+1 on adding this feature being mandatory. I use this system in a vacation rental/AirBNB. I need the ability to restrict ALL new devices automatically from being able to access P2P/torrents and download sites. I can’t manually add every single device after it connects to the network. Every router firewall I’ve configured has this out of the box, I too assumed TP-Link would have this too.

@sr0001

I agree that there MUST be a default profile with filters for all new devices that join my network.  Otherwise, my children's friend could bring their devices over and join the network with unlimited access until I am able to take action - but that could be too late before damage is done.  This is a lacking necessity for parental controls.

Also, it would be very nice to be able to pause a specific device at anytime.  Currently, you can only pause a whole profile, not a single device in the profile.  (I suppose you could "block" a specific device - what is the difference?)

This is a really big fail by TP-Link.  Parental controls are of no use whatsoever if a new device is not automatically added to a default profile.
