Model: Archer C5400
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version:

So my devices started to drop wifi signal for no reason and would not reconnect.  I enabled the setting where the 2.4ghz and both 5ghz channels were combined and the router chose which channel the device would connect to (cannot remember what it is called on the menu).  I reset the router several times and the issue kept repeating, called technical support gave them the symptoms, etc...  On a whim I disabled the auto select option and allowed the user to select either 2.4 or 5g1/5g2.  When I connected devices to 5ghz 2 the devices would not connect at all.  After turning the 5ghz2 channel off the issue went away.  Our devices have no issues with 2.4 or 5g1.  It is a bummer because I love the router but now I have a dual band unit.  Has anyone else experienced any such issues?  The number of devices in our home keeps climbing so I am waiting for the AX11000 to come out hopefully sometime in the near future.

@Chris71

You could first factory default the router to see if the issue still exists.

Upgrade the router with the latest firmware release. You likely already have the latest version, but if an error happening is software related, reflashing should fix it.

Here is a FAQ on how to upgrade it: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1369/

Another setting to adjust would be in the Advanced > Wireless > Wireless Settings > 5GHz-2, set the channel width to 80Mhz, and the channel to 128.

Regarding the AX11000, plans are to release the unit before the end of this year so hopefully it will be out soon.

@Tony  Thank you. I reset it to factory and it worked for about 20min before shutting down.  On the tether app it could not locate my router so I had to log into my router manually and shut down 5G2 again.  I have been living with a 2 band Tri-band router for several months..waiting another couple months for the AX11000 is no big deal.

@clakshminarasu not sure, I was never able to get it to work. I sold my C5400 to a coworker and bought the AX11000.
