I just bought a Archer c2700 to use as my main router and my c2300 as a extension. I can't get the guest wireless to work on the c2300 now and my internet has a red X on this router. I can access the net on the main ssid on this router with no problems but not with guest I was told not to enable dhcp on 2nd router or choose access point. What am I missing. My main router C2700 ip 192.168.1.5 and 2nd router c2300 is 192.168.1.101. Every device that was working on the 2nd device is working ok. Any ideas as to why my guest is not working or why the internet shows a red X even though I can access the net with the c2300 device. Thanks

The guest network works off of the WAN having internet, the guest network will not work in that setting.

 

If you want the guest network to work you either need to have the second router defaulted and having the Ethernet cable connected to the WAN rather then the LAN or change the second router to AP mode and move the Ethernet cable from the LAN to the WAN.

 

In your current setting the LAN is giving the internet which the WAN does not know which is why you have internet while it says at the same time is none.

Wouldn't having my main router connected to the modem on wan port (as it is now) not cause a conflict if I connect a lan port of 1st router to the wan port of 2nd router. Thanks

Undo the IP settings in the router since you would not be able to have the LAN IP be the same subnet of the WAN IP which will be the same subnet of the main router. So in other words, you can do that, then guest network will have internet, but factory default the second router before you connect its WAN to the LAN of the main router.
