Model: Archer AX1500
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I installed a new tp-link AX1500.  With my iphone next to the router I get download speeds of about 350 Mbps with the 5G network (as good as I could expect) but only about 18 Mbps with the 2.4G network. Surely there shouldn't be that big a difference when I am right next to the router. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Things to try. Power cycle both. Try another device to see if you get the same speeds to help determine if it may be the phone or the router. Try about 5 feet away as to close can cause issues. Try specific WIFI channels and channel width. If you used the same SSIDs and passwords, delete (forget) the 2.4 network on your phone and re-establish it.

@ArcherC8 The AX1500 has no options for channel or channel width.  2.4G download speeds continue to be below 15 Mbps with phones and laptops in the same room as the router despite 300 Mbps service to the router.  With devices that can receive 5G the speeds are 300-350 Mbps.

Anyone have other things to try or explanations?  Much appreciated.  Very frustrating.

I just looked at the user guide chapter 12 and it shows the option for channel and width. I wonder if some other option prevents you changing it such as Smart Connect. https://www.tp-link.com/us/user-guides/archer-ax10&ax1500_v1/chapter-12-customize-your-network-settings#ug-sub-title-6

@ArcherC8 I saw the same thing - I assumed that since the manual is for the AX10 (whatever that is) also, that some of the options didn't apply to both models.

I would backup the router since it is functioning. Then I would try changing several settings such as Smart Connect. Power cycle between changes. If by chance you get to the point where you no longer have a connection, then reset the router and recover from the back-up. 2.4 is slower than 5 GHz but that does seem excessive. If you want to know way more than you need, read this https://www.duckware.com/tech/wifi-in-the-us.html
