Model: Archer AX3000
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.8 Build 20200426 rel.65338(5553)

OpenVPN enabled

Service Type: UDP

VPN Subnet/Netmask: 10.8.0.0 255.255.255.0

Client Access: Internet and Home Network

I set up the VPN and it works.  I can access my LAN devices through my phone's mobile network; the phone is running the OpenVPN app. Being a VPN newbie, it took a bit of research to understand that the AX3000 VPN server was "routing" between the VPN subnet (10.8.0.*) and my home LAN (192.168.0.*). Unfortunately, the Xfinity streaming app refuses to stream "at home" programming through the VPN. And my Tivo app still thinks I'm remote. Anybody know how to fix this? Does the LAN and VPN subnets have to be in the same address space (eg 192.168.0.*)? And if so, is that accomplished by changing  the 'VPN Subnet/Netmask' to 192.168.0.0 255.255.255.7 ... and reserving seven VPN addresses for VPN (exclude from LAN DHCP pool)?

Thx.

I am sort of a VPN newbie also and use only a device VPN and not a router based VPN to be used mostly when I travel with my device. Many services will block you if it detects a VPN especially if the VPN server you link to is in a different country. I assume that since your IP address is different (google "what is my ip") Xfinity will not let you use the Xfinity app. The streaming request would be sent to the VPN site and then back to the Xfinity server which would have the VPN server IP address. I hope this helps a bit.

@ArcherC8

Hmmmm... i was hoping and expecting that the AX3000 OpenVPN server would NAT my remote device's IP address to the router/modem ip address. But maybe the xfinity app is somehow collecting and reporting its VPN ip address... or mobile network  ip address.

Btw, I tried setting the VPN subnet/netmask to 192.168.0.248 / 192.168.0.248 (and excluding addresses from dhcp pool) hoping to allocate 192.168.0.249 - 192.168.0.254 to VPN... and the router reset itself to factory defaults. Lesson learned for not backing up my last good router config.

For "at home" to work, it needs to be on a device that is not on the VPN which appears what you are trying to set up. When you get it to work, post what you did as others including me would like to know.
