AX1500 wifi coverage greatly reduced after firmwire upgrade
Hey guys,
Last Saturday I bought my AX1500 and place the modem on the 2nd floor of the house. It reaches the 3rd floor and the ground floor with no problem with the wifi signals at 2 to 3 bars. However came Sunday, I try to go to the tether and saw that there is an available update on the firmware, it was my habit to always update to latest firmware, however, this update greatly reduce my wifi coverage. I cannot access my wifi when I am in the 3rd floor now, it used to be 2 to 3 bars and now literally cannot detect the signal.
Is there a fix for this or a way to revert back my old firmware version?
This is really disappointing.

You would want to log into the web UI for the router. Click on Advanced > Wireless > Wireless Settings. Check the transmit power and make sure its set to High. If it is then you can try to downgrade the firmware by downloading and installing the previous firmware from here: Just make sure you download and install based on your hardware version.

Hi @Carl,
Thanks for your reply. I have a follow up question:
1. If I downgrade my firmware, am I able to upgrade it again if there is a new and stable version released by tplink for that router?
2. How do I know the previous version of the firmware installed prior to the latest one I've installed?
Waiting for your reply.

1. Absoluetly. Firmware can be updated or downgrade whenever you choose to unless the release note specifcally say it can't be downgraded. Upgrade is never an issue though. Just make sure you are installing the frimware for the correct hardware version
2. look at the build number. That is the firmware date. you can compare that to the file name on our website to determine which one you have installed.

Hi @Carl,
Sorry for the late reply. I manage to download the bin file for the downgrade however when I upload it on my router (Advance -> System Tools->Firmware Upgrade), and then clicked upgrade. It prompt me that upgrade failed.

There is no indication why you shouldn't be able too. Ususally the release notes will indicate when it can't be downgraded. You are installing for V1 and not V1.2 right?

Hi @Carl,
There was a note on the latest update of v1 that once I installed it, I can never downgrade again.
Can you help me report this issue with your programmers about the wifi issue if they are able to replicate it and have a fix next update?
