AX10/AX1500 VR game streaming stuttering
Hi there, I am a representative of the Virtual Desktop community (community of around 20k on Discord with up to 5000 active users a day) and I need to bring an issue to TP Links attention.
We are often asked which routers our users should get and up until now for those on a budget we have recommended TP Link and the best model we have been advising for Oculus Quest 2 compatibility is the Archer AX10 or AX1500 since the specs match the Quest 2's networking hardware perfectly.
Quite a few users with this TP Link router have been complaining about terrible visual stuttering which is making their VR experience unplayable.
In trying to troubleshoot I purchased one of the routers myself and received a Hardware Version 1.0 router, which I have to say for me is performing brilliantly so far.
It has now become apparent that those suffering issues all have the v1.2 revision of the hardware.
We support our users so have of course advised latest firmware updates and correct WiFi settings but for these people (including a fellow admin who purchased an AX1500 yesterday in the US) the issues persist and all of them will likely be returning the hardware if it cannot be fixed.
Because my v1.0 on is working fine I need to come here and find out what is going on and if something can be fixed asap with a firmware update?
I want to continue to recommend TP Link routers to our members (ever increasing due to Quest 2 popularity) but will have to hold back until this issue is resolved.
We have a few people I can ask to assist with testing if required so please can a representative of TP Link contact me if necessary to get the ball rolling.

Could be that the 2.4GHz radio is interfering with the 5GHz one.
I have disabled my 2.4GHz radio, as have a few others since we use this routers WiFi for dedicated VR usage.
It would appear that for some of those with issues have both radios enabled and disabling the 2.4GHz radio fixes the issue.
It's not consistent tho as some have 2.4GHz disabled and are still having the same issue.
When I get home I will enable the 2.4GHz radio on mine and see if I get the same issues as others.

I haven't heard of compatiblity issues with our router and any wireless VR headset but I am reaching out to our testing team on what details they would need in order to locally test. I'll be in touch as soon as i have something.

I have same problem with my new TP-LINK AX50 (EU Version) and Oculus Quest 2. I just bought it yesterday. The latest firmware version. Micro-stutter problem anywhere. It may appear once per minute, or it may appear several times in a row. Bitrate settings don't matter. Maybe when you move, or just when you wave your hands. I tested on different channels with AX and AC modes. My old router doesn't have this problem (100 megabit Zyxel). The AX-50 operates in an exclusive 5 GHz mode. There are no other devices in this range. Bluetooth devices nearby are disabled.

Posting to contribute my own experience here. I purchased an AX1500 because so many people had reported good benchmarks for streaming VR applications from their desktops. I set it up initially in AP mode with only my desktop PC plugged into ethernet, and my Quest 2 device attached to the 5ghz wifi. I disabled the 2.4ghz wifi, and locked it to AX mode. Everything worked perfectly, with great latency and bandwidth.
Next I gave it a static IP suitable for the rest of my home network and connected it via the uplink port to an older existing AC1750 which is acting as my network router and gateway. So now I have 2.4ghz wifi only on the old device and 5ghz only on the new. Again, no problems with performance and my downstream devices were now able to access the internet.
Unfortunately the moment I connect any other device to the 5ghz SSID on the ax1500, my VR streaming experience suddenly becomes unplayable with lots of stuttering. In some test cases I can disconnect the device and it clears up, but it seems in most cases it never recovers until I disconnect the client device and power cycle the AX1500. I cant be certain if this is from extra latency or shared bandwidth but it seems like an issue if another device sitting idle on the same band would cause my otherwise perfect performance to become worse than it was before with half a dozen devices on the old AC1750 5ghz wifi. This seems to me to point to some kind of firmware flaw associated with managing multiple client sessions, but I am by no means a wifi engineer.
I expected to have the experience degrade somewhat if another device was in use on the same wifi, sure-- but going from amazing performance to unacceptable just by connecting another client device makes me feel like there is something wrong. As others have stated in this thread, I do have a hardware revision 1.2 device. I've considered returning it because as it stands right now I have a wireless AP that only delivers acceptable performance with a single device connected, essentially serving a rather complicated and expensive wireless bridge for 1 device.

I have the same problem with TP-LINK AX1500, disconnecting other wi-fi devices helped, but it's a weak solution. In ac and under mode it works fine.

Same problem here occurs whenever I connect my smartphone to the 5ghz band, lagg occurs instantly from the moment I connect and it dissapears when I dissconnect my phone from the 5ghz band. (2,4ghz seems to be no problem for me)
Only other device on the network is my smart tv (lg), this doesnt seem to be an issue so far.
Hopefully there will be a fix soon or else I'll be returning the router.

I confirm that I also have this issue. When I disable 2.4ghz it improves but still causes issues in VR. If I turn off AX (Mode: 802.11a/n/ac mixed) then the issue is fixed and works as intended. Please keep this thread up to date if there has been any progress on this. I purchased this router for AX VR, and am unable to return it.

I have the similar problems as my colleagues writing above.
I can't use wireless VR (Quest 2) via Virtual Desktop with that router becaouse of stuttering. I have tried to make a lot changes of my configuration, but none of that helped. I have microstuttering in all games, with all bitrate settings. Eves simple games with bitrate as ~30mbps stutters. 2.4GHz disabled, 5GHz only quest 2 connected.
Bought that router especially for Q2/VD and can't return it.
