Model: Archer AX55
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

I recently purchased an Archer AX55. I have a gigabit Tiscali WAN connection, which when wired in I get full speeds on multiple speedtests. When connecting to wifi from any device in my house I consistantly get between 250-300mbps. I've tried changing channels / channel width and disabling QOS. Does anyone have any tips for what else to try, or is this a dud?

With my old AC1200 Router on WiFi with the same Smartphone i had 600-700Mbps.

That frequently occurs for me also.

LAN port > 900 Mbps

Wifi 35 Mbps to 600 Mbps, usually 100 Mbps to 280 Mbps

I'd be happy if I could consistenlty get 250 Mbps to 300 Mbps.

  @xiDani,

Rather than disabling the QoS setting, I would like you to try and manually set the QoS setting to a speed above what you expect to receive from your ISP. QoS is really meant to benefit slower connections, however, it is very known to cause unexpected slowdowns.

Have you been able to determine if your devices are effectively switching between the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands on the network?

It is possible that those slower sub-100 speeds are a result of your device sticking to the 5Ghz network while you are moving around.

To troubleshoot, you could try to disable the Smart Connect feature, and see if the connection issue is only occurring on one of the bands.

What is the speed connection when you complete a test right next to the main router?

  @Riley_S Hi! I have two SSID with 5GHz and 2.4GHz and the speedtests were made on the 5GHz WiFi Network. Channel width is set to 160MHz for 5GHz and 40MHz for 2.4GHz.

QoS is disabled and the only way to turn it on is from the tethering app and it is off. I saw a little improvement enabling Airtime Fairness.

I restored the router with the reset Button twice to see if it was something to do with corrupted files or settings.

It is impossibile to connect to the TP-Link ID.

Have you tried 'forgetting' the Network Connection? Especially if you are using the SAME SSID as the old router. It is possible some data from the old connection is saved? How to do that varies by device though.

A 'mismatch' in Security can slow you down too.

I've got no problems on my AX55 though, using WPA2/WPA3, AX connections but only 2 use WPA3, others use WPA2.

  @IrvSp yes, I tryed. The SSIDs are different for the 5GHz and 2.4GHz network.

The encryption I am currently using is WPA3/WPA2 - Personal.

With only WPA2 the problem is the same. With an ethernet cable my PC reaches 1000Mbps.

  @xiDani,

I happened to see that earlier you mentioned you can't connect to your TP-Link ID, if that's the case, your router may not be able to contact the TP-Link Cloud Services. This would also mean that your firmware may not be auto-updating to the most recent firmware version.

What version of firmware is running on your device? If you are unable to update via Internet, there is a manual firmware upgrade process that can be used.

  @Riley_S Firmware: 1.1.1 Build 20220621 rel.71166(4555) Hardware: Archer AX55 v1.0

I checked online and it seems to be the latest.

Don't know what to tell you?

I have 400Mbps service, and my ISP over-provisions it to about 480Mbps.

This is what my Settings look like for Wireless:

7d8099bcd848441f9dd822d33b3d84be

See if your settings are the same?

I tested on a PC running W11 Home on an Intel Killer 1650 AX that can also do WiFi6e (screen shot above) as well as an IPhone 12 using the Speed Test app with the SAME basic results.

Other wireless devices here, all AX, another PC, 2 iPad's, and even an Android phone get the same results.

Are you on Windows? If so, get Acryllic (Google for it, can't put non-TP-Link URL's here, Acrylic Analyzer) and run it, you might have some interference causing problems.

I do have many around me, but none are very powerful to cause a problem:

  @xiDani,

Can confirm, you have the most up-to-date firmware.

For our Deco Units, some people have found that their wired speeds are normal while their wireless speeds suffer when UPnP is enabled, no clue if it would help with an Archer Router, but it does solve a similar behavior seen on Deco.

  @IrvSp this is my speed test on my OnePlus 8 that does support WiFi 6. On my Windows 11 PC that is directly connected via Ethernet cable the result is 800-900Mbps. I tryed to disable UPnP but nothing changed...
