Model: Deco M5
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.6.5

I have a typical M5 mesh network with one Main M5 unit and 3 satellite M5 units.

The problem is when an IOT device with a fixed/static IP address (manually assigned on device) and outside of the DHCP range connects to one of the (3) satellite M5 units, the other (2), including the MAIN M5 are not able to connect to the device. It's entire connectivity band is limited to only other devices assigned to the same M5 satellite as the IOT device.

For example:

Laptop computer is on M5-2 (satellite)

IOT device on M5-3 (satellite)

-->Laptop will be unable to ping the device.

If, I select "Connection Preference" on app and then for Laptop computer assign it to the same M5 and IOT device (M5-3), THEN and ONLY then will laptop able to ping the IOT device.

So, something is not "Mesh" about the deco M5 Mesh network!

If anyone knows why or has experienced this same failure, please respond.

Thanks..

  @sfg1silver,

I talked with our beta testing team about this behavior and they mentioned that this is not the expected behavior for static IPs. They mentioned that a user had a similar behavior when testing one of our device, but the issue was resolved as soon as the device was disconnected from the network and reconnected to it.

There were two recommendations given to try and diagnose where the miscommunication is happening

- Try erasing the Static IP of the device to see if the device is able to connect to the network in the first place properly.

- Try setting an IP reservation for the Static IP that you have set; while it should not happen, it could be possible that the main deco is assigning an IP address on top of the IP that is being seen by the satellite deco. This may also give your network and connections  additional stability.

Do you know if this behavior extends to your entire network, or only one of the satellite units?
