Firmware Version:

Model: Deco X55 pro

Hardware version: 1.6

Firmware: 1.1.1 Build 20230613

Hi all, I've been encountering issues with my new Deco X55 pro. Here's some background: I previously had the X60 set, which worked perfectly for me. However, I decided to return them and opt for a new X55 pro set due to the 2x2.5Gbps ports it offers. My ISP is CenturyLink. I set up the new Deco set by directly connecting the ONT Ethernet cable to the main Deco unit, and all satellite units were connected via Ethernet as well. Here's the setup diagram:

ONT cable > Main Deco > Switch > 2 satellite units

The problem I'm facing is that over the past three days since the setup, the Deco unit in my partner's office intermittently goes offline. Interestingly, even devices not connected to that specific node also lose connection during those times. The connection usually restores itself after around 5 minutes. I'm puzzled by the fact that my devices disconnected even when they connect to the node in my room, which has a separate Ethernet backhaul. Could this be due to a defective node or possibly a firmware issue? If I decide to downgrade the firmware, are there any additional steps required beyond manually downloading the firmware and installing it from the web UI page? Thanks all.

Here are the attempts I've made so far:

  • I reset everything to factory settings and set it all up again this morning (though the issue reoccurred about 30 minutes ago).
  • Swapped out the main unit with the other one in my room.

Updated: Right after I posted this, the same node has issue again, devices connected to that node dropping connection. The node's LED light is still green, I checked the Deco app and it still showing Ethernet connection between that node and the main one. All devices moved to the other 2 nodes. I sit next to the broken node and still not able to connect to it.

Here is the log line I see:

Fri Aug 11 16:59:10 2023 daemon.err nrd[8296]: ar_pat_calc_cand_datarate[line 862]: estimated pat datarate is 0 at index 3, apMac: (the broken node's MAC)

Some quick updates that I have been observing:

I have swapped out the malfunctioning Deco unit and moved it to other locations in the house and it still disconnected all devices from itself (only that one behaves like that, the other 2 works fine). When that happens, the LED light on it still shows solid green. That unit originally was a satellite unit, but I tried to reset the whole network and set it to be the main Deco to observe its behaviors. It is named Basement now. After I did this. the connection was unstable at first, then it was restored until the next morning. When that happens, I notice that only 5GHz band devices have problems connecting to the unit, those on 2.4GHz running fine. I tried to connect to the 5GHz Wi-fi and the popup showed "Unable to connect to Wifi-name", while I was successfully connected to the 2.4GHz.

Yesterday the connection from that unit was really bad, it went down several times per hour, the previous day it did that once in like 4,5 hours. I reset all the units a couple of times. Currently the bad unit is set to be the main one and I haven't seen it drop since the one time last night right after I set up, or it could be because I haven't run anything constantly to notice that again.

Some log lines when connection dropped on the bad unit:

Still not any help from support team rather keep being told to wait (no contact from engineer team either). Asked to close the case and seeking for help from Amazon before return window closes.
