Hello:  I started to experience buffering on multiple websites and streaming apps about a month ago with my Archer A7.  It had worked fine for 3 years up until now and there have been no new devices added (everything is apple).  Eventually, I called my ISP to get help.  They assured me my connection was stable and functioning well (as it has been for 3 years) and indeed, each time I experienced buffering, a speed check revealed 500mbps. 

 

So I bought a new router, the Archer AX55, figuring the old router was failing.  But now I am experiencing the same problem with the new router.  I have done everything I can think of to fix the problem, including multiple reboots of both the router and modem, updating firmware, hitting the reset button on the new router, all to no effect.  I did get a slight improvement when I switched on the smart connect.   Sometimes the router works perfectly and super fast, but frequently it takes forever for videos to load on both websties and streaming apps.  When I switch over to my cell phone hot spot (11mbps), everything works fine and the buffering goes away.  When i switch back to wireless, that seems to work fine too for a while, but the problem eventually returns the next time I try to use a device.

 

My cable consistenly checks out at 500mbps during all disruptions and I've had almost zero outages or issue in my 3 years w my ISP. This is so frustraing.  Does anyone have any tips on fixing this?  P.S, I live in a single room 500sqft apt so distance is not the issue.

How are you doing the speed check? Is the issue both ethernet and wifi?
I would power off the modem and router for 5 min, then power on the modem, wait a bit then power on the router.

Also try a different ethernet cable between the router and modem.

  @beachnorwegian Thank you for responding.  Ever since I posted, my wifi has worked perfectly and without taking any of the steps you suggested.  I did my speed tests w the FAST app and speedtest.net.  I suspect the problem was my ISP all along.  Yesterday there was a brief outage (rare) and perhaps they replaced a defective part in their network.
