PS5 absolutely refuses to connect to Archer AX73 main network
Pretty much what the title says. Just purchased an Archer AX73 to replece a Nighthawk 7000 Wifi 5 router. Majority of the devices in the house are Wifi 6 (mostly Apple stuff and one PC) with a smattering of older stuff that will only connect to 2.4 Ghz (camera, monitor, PS3). So far just about everything connects with no issue except for the PS5.
The PS5 sees the router and connects to it, but when it tries to hit the internet, the connection just dies. Very similar to what this person describes (https://community.tp-link.com/us/home/forum/topic/645998). Here's what I've done so far:
- Updated the router to latest firmware
- Updated the PS5
- Made the PS5 forget the old network name
- Created a new network name
- Tried using SmartConnect
- Created separate 5Ghz and 2.4 Ghz networks
- Tried setting the PS5 to use 5Ghz only
- Tried setting the PS5 to use 2.4Ghz only
- Reset default settings on PS5 to try to clear network data
- Unplugged router for five minutes and plugged back in
- Used Cloudflare and Google DNS numbers
- Restarted the PS5 a billion times
The only thing that is working so far is setting up a 5Ghz guest network (with a secure password). One thing I'm noticing is that the main network is using WPA2 personal and the guest is using WPA3. When I get a chance, I'll try to monkey with those.
The Archer is in another room, but the PS5 is saying the signal strength is 100%, so we're good there. The PS3 is working fine. I haven't tried moving the Archer next to the PS5 to hardwire it yet. I want to avoid that as much as possible as I need a hardwire connection to my computer for WFH.
I also have an old Netgear Wifi 5 network extender with an Ethernet port laying aroud. I was getting decent speeds with the old Nighthawk, so that is an option.
Is anyone else running into this? This is driving me effing insane. I have to admit, this PS5 issue is really putting a dent in what's been up-to-now a great user experience with TP-Link. In particular, I really think the mobile app is a major step up from the Netgear one. I'm just really shocked at how dfficult connecting the PS5 has been, particalurly since the Nighthawk had zero issues.
TIA for any help.
