Knowledge Base Understanding Deco Configuration Options — Configuration Backup, Replace Main Deco, Internet Backup
Hey Deco Users!
The Deco app now offers advanced features designed to enhance your connection. Understanding how these features work ensures the appropriate feature is selected for your networking needs.
- Configuration Backup: Saves your Deco Settings
- Replace Main Deco: Swaps your Main Deco Node
- Set Main Deco: Pick a New Main Deco
- Internet Backup: Stay Online if the Main Connection Fails
Configuration Backup: A Framework for Efficient Hardware Recovery
The primary function of Configuration Backup is to preserve your network’s specific settings in a digital format. In the event that your Deco unit requires replacement, this backup enables rapid deployment of a new device and restoration of previously configured preferences.
Requirements: A Configuration Backup from an Existing Deco Network and an Up-to-Date Deco App
Replace Main Deco: For Seamless Hardware Upgrades
When you upgrade to a more advanced Deco model and want to use it as the main device in your mesh system without resetting your network settings, "Replace Main Deco" allows the new main Deco to inherit all configurations from the previous one.
Additionally, the Set Main Deco feature can be a helpful troubleshooting tool, allowing any satellite unit to become the new main Deco without losing current network settings. This helps you quickly determine if an issue is related to a specific Deco unit.
Note: This feature is dependent on your Deco's Hardware and Firmware versions, and may vary between models. The new Deco will only inherit the advanced features that it supports.

Internet Backup: An Optional Failover Connection Method
Internet backup helps ensure uninterrupted operations when primary Internet services, such as fiber or cable, experience outages. This function continuously monitors the status of the main internet connection and, upon detecting an interruption, automatically transitions operations to a preconfigured mobile hotspot. This seamless failover process minimizes downtime and maintains Internet continuity. Feature support varies by model, region, and Internet provider.
Requirements: A 4G/5G Deco is working as the satellite Mesh unit.
Note: The satellite 4G/5G Deco also needs to support the "Internet Backup" feature.
