I have a Pixel9a and I am using its hotspot as the internet backup for my Deco x60. Howerver the test connection check keeps failing and I have no idea why. Here is what I have done so far:

 

  • Using 2.4 ghz band in Pixel 9a for hotspot.
  • Using WPA2-personal encryption for hotspot.
  • Using fixed WAN port in deco.
  • Using Manual DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as the dns server for internet connection.

 

Here are the logs from the test and I think these are some interesting observation 

 

  • The Deco successfully scanned and identified myPixel hotspot on the 2.4 GHz band with an exceptionally strong signal (-28 rssi)Sun Apr 5 14:25:57 2026 daemon.info internet-backup: best: xxxxx , bssid: xx:xx:xx:xx :8d:36, freq: 2432, rssi: -28

  • Sun Apr 5 14:26:58 2026 daemon.notice internet-backup: state transit from server_up to ewan

  • Sun Apr 5 14:27:03 2026 user.notice internet-backup: backup_wan_teardow

 

Any idea on whats going on which can help me debug this will be greatly appreciated.

First please access the Deco web UI by entering "tplinkdeco.net" in your browser. Navigate to Advanced > System > System Log, select "ALL" in the log type, and save the file to your local computer. Then follow the steps below making sure to attach the logs to the email.

I recommend sending an email to forumsupport.usa@tp-link.com with the following information:

Subject: [Forum Escalation][ID 861504Internet backup connection test keeps failing

Forum Nickname: [User Provided]
