Monitoring via UPnP not working for Archer C7

Hey guys... I am trying to help out a group of parents that have kids with cognitive disabilities like Autism and Sensory Overload Disorder. A number of the parents (including myself), have a Archer C7 and trying to figure out monitoring solutions.
From reading some of the other posts, it looks like SMB is not an option, so I went the UPNP route. However, while the broadcast and descriptions for the services are available, I am always getting back a HTML page with 500 Server Error.
Is this a known issue? Is there a firmware update to help? Are there better routers to recommend to the parents?
