Need help installing HS200

Model: HS200
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 2.20.0

I attempted to replace this 2 wire (no ground) switch with an HS200. This switch and only this switch controls an outdoor patio light.

I pulled the second switch from left out to gain better access to the white wire bundle (neutral?) After installing as pitcured below, the HS200 made a clicking sound and the patio light switched on and off. I put the original switch back in and the light is working fine.

Am I using the correct switch? What mistake did I make in my wiring? Thanks in advance.

@wheelman

The original needs to have at the very least a line, load, and neutral. Looks like the original outlet is short one wire.

@Tony

There was a white and black wire connected to the original switch. I connected those to the live and load wires on the HS200. There was a bundle of white wires in the wall box that I connected the HS200 neutral to.

What wire am I missing?

Thanks

@wheelman

What is the problem, the switch does not have power?

@B.Will

I explained a little better in the original post, but basically when the switch is turned on, the light flashes on and off.

thanks for your help.

@wheelman The connections look right.

Make sure you have good metal to metal contact befor the wirenut is screwed on, and try swapping the black/white live/load.

@B.Will

I tried those suggestions. This is the second switch I've tried to install with the same results so I doubt it's a bad switch. Both times I made sure I had good neutral wire contact and tried switching the live and load wires.

thanks for your help.

@wheelman The problem is more than likely that the power feed is at the light fixture, and the feed is reversed.

With the old switch installed, measure the voltage from switch leads to ground, one lead should read 120 volts.

Then turn the switch on and both leads should read 120 volts.

If both leads read as 0 volts, then the hot lead and neutral at the fixture are reversed.

@B.Will

thank you. I will check for that. If I find that, will reversing them at the fixture solve my issue possibly?

@wheelman If you do not know how to correctly wire the fixture, you should get a electrician.

@wheelman I had the same problem.  I solved it by keeping the bundle of neutral wire together and connecting the white wire to the bundle.  Perviously, I had connect to just one of the neutral wires.  Not sure if i just picked a bad one but, either way, it's working well now.
