Hi there,

I am wondering if the HS220 will work in a 3 way swich if I only use that one switch with the HS220 installed to adjust the lights and not use the other switch at all?

Thanks

@Jtmon3y

You must replace the 3way that has the power connected.

Connect power to LINE of the HS220.

Connect both travellers to the LOAD of the HS220.

By connecting the HS220 this way the 3way switch that is at the other end can be toggeled without effecting the light.

Let us know how it goes.

@B.Will

Can you provide a little more info for this setup? I have 2 sets of can lights I am trying to put on a smart dimmer (HS220). Both of them are 3-way switches. If I leave the other switch alone, I just need to find the switch that has the POWER connected to it, correct? How do I identify that switch? How do you identify the travelers? Thanks!

@OscarC  You may want to use a electrician.

To identify the power source you will have the switches exposed and the power on. And use a meter or contactless tester.

@B.Will  I ended up just guessing and choosing the switch closest to the breaker box and luckily it was the right one!  Only downside was I had to install it upside down as that was the only way it fit in my box.  Also took some time for me to connect the 2 travellers and get them attached to the single screw as I'm no electrician.  Glad it's working tho, thanks B Will

@B.Will I have replaced multiple switches before. Just trying to figure out best way to identify the power switch. Once I take cover off and turn on power, will it be the one with the hot line?

@OscarC The travellers are the brass/copper colored screws.

The common is the black screw.

Power on, light off, the common that has power is the hot(powered switch).
