Firmware Version:

I want to replace a dumb switch with the HS200. The dumb switch controls an outlet but I don't want that functionality anymore. I want the outlet to be always on and the HS200 to control a wifi plug elsewhere in the room. Is this possible? How do I wire it?

@Jarmic23

If the Wi-Fi plug is a TP-link plug such as the HS105 then you would not need to use a smart switch.

When installing the switch we recommend following the designed installation mentioned here: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1128/

@Tony

Thanks, Tony. Yes, I plan to use the HS105 smart plug. But I want to walk into the room, flick a switch, and have the light go on. I don't want to use my phone all the time. Will the HS200 do that without affecting the circuit it's on?

@Jarmic23

As far as wiring the outlet to always stay on, I'd recommend consulting a trained professional since it's out of our design purpose. However, say the switch was installed, you can then create two smart actions, where when the switch is turned on or off it will do the same for the TP-Link plug.

Here is an article about smart actions: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/2567/

@Jarmic23 Turn off breaker.

To keep the outlet on all the time you need to remove the two black wires from the switch and put them together.

Add one of the black leads from the HS200 to the two black wires and attach a wire nut.

In the box should be a group of white wires under a wire nut, add the white lead from the HS200 to that group.

Add the green lead from the HS200 to the green or bare wires in the box.

Put a wire nut on the secound black lead of the HS200.

Turn on breaker.

Configure the HS200 as per instructions.

Follow Tony's instructions for the 2 smart actions and you should be good to go.
