I bought kasa hs103 (no other numbers) mini plug to use with Alexa. 1 it will turn off items like my fan but won't turn them on. You have to manually turn item on n then if you tell Alexa or kasa app to turn off, it will. Kasa app won't turn them on, only off. Why?
Does the device have a remote control? In most cases like this its because your device doesn't truly go off but into a standby mode. Think of your TV or a Game Console. When it's turned off it is still pulling just enough power to respond to the remote control and to be turned on from there. When you use a Smart Plug with such a device and turn off the power from the plug it acts as a vampire tap, cutting off all power. This, in essence, is like pulling the power cord or shutting off the surge protector. All power is cut so the device can't respond and would need to be manually turned back on to allow operational control.
