Hi All,

I recently switched from Verizon FIOS to Optimum (fiber) for my home. I am disappointed with the performance of Optimum's gateway (modem) and three wi-fi extenders.

My brother gave me his spare stuff for me to try:

  • TP-link, AX1500 (USW) router, v.2.6 #1
  • TP-link, AX1500 (USW) router, v.2.6 #2
  • TP-link, AC2600. RE650, range extender, VN1
  • TP-link, AC1200, RE305, v.4.6 mesh WIFI extender #1
  • Verizon FIOS G1110 router

This is my house layout with Ethernet (CAT5) locations.

  • 1A through 3E indicates Ethernet jack locations
  • 2A is the Optimum Gateway

Setup Question

Although my house is only 1800 sq feet, but due to it being old, there are many obstructions throughout the house. The primary issue is that my teenagers' rooms (x1 and x2) are serviced by a single WIFI extender from the first floor and the performance is really poor.

Below is the setup I am thinking about:

  • 2B: Optimum Gateway (bridge mode) --> Archer 1500 router #1, wired
  • 2B to 3E: Archer #1 to Archer #2 (AP mode), wired
  • 3E to RE: Archer #2 to RE650 Range Extender, WIFI
  • 2B to 2D: Archer #1 to RE305 Mesh WIFI extender, wired
  • 2B to 1A: Archver #1 to Verizon FIOS G-1110 router (AP mode), wired

What do you guys  think about my proposal?

  @cooler-master

The topology seems fine.

If you have any dead spot on your first floor you can set 2A: Optimum Gateway (bridge mode) --> 2C: Archer 1500 router #1, wired (if that's possible).

If this was helpful click once on the arrow pointing upward. If this solves your issue, click once the star to mark it as a "Recommended Solution".

Thanks for the reply.  Unfortunately, the primary router must be located at 2B because many Ethernet cables only terminate at this spot.

I will install and come back with my results...
