Inductive vs Resistive Loads – What is the Capacity of a Tapo Outdoor Smart Plug?

Maximum Load*: 15A, 1800W, 1/2 HP Motor (General / Resistive Load)

*Dual-outlet smart Plugs use a Combined Maximum Load. Both Connected Devices Must Have a Combined Load less than the Listed Maximum Load.

The Tapo P400M is rated for 15A at 1800W (Under a General or Resistive Load) and can support up to a ½ HP Motor.

While a ‘heavy-duty’ device, the type of load that your device places on your plug can change the plug's maximum capacity.

We recommend reading the article below to better understand what devices have resistive vs. inductive loads and what devices are recommended for a smart plug: How Much is Too Much? – Adding Smart Control to Your Lighting

Tip: Dimmable vs Regular Patio Lighting

The P400M and TP25 Do Not Provide Manual Power Adjustment to a Device. If your patio lights can dim, we recommend checking out the Kasa KP405 to use your lights dimming feature from the Kasa or Tapo App.
