I have a older computer in my garage that does not have wi-fi so I purchased this and was told I could plug it in and my computer would then recognize my wi-fi signal.NOT WORKING my modem is in house so please help me understand how to fix my issue

I understand you have an older computer in a garage, a modem in a house, and an issue.
What does not have wifi? Is it the garage or the old computer?
You purchased something, and you did not tell us what, and you did not explain what you did with that purchased item.
I understand you plugged something somewhere, but you do not describe what you plugged and where you plugged it.
What modem are you using?
What is you issue?
Do not hesitate describing what you have installed and how you installed it.
