I’m using the KP125M, which clearly supports energy monitoring in the Kasa app — but none of that data is available over Matter. It only exposes on/off control. This makes no sense.

  • Matter 1.3 supports energy reporting (W, kWh, etc.).

  • Home Assistant and other platforms support reading this data.

  • The hardware already collects it.

  • The only thing missing? TP-Link's firmware exposing the correct Matter clusters.

This isn't just the KP125M — other TP-Link plugs with energy monitoring also fail to report anything via Matter. That defeats the point of Matter: local control, no cloud reliance, and full device interoperability.

When will TP-Link release a firmware update to fix this?
Right now, you're holding your own hardware — and your users — back.

  @JoeMamaJoeDaddy,

It should be coming. The devices themselves need to be updated to run version 1.3 so that they know how to communicate the data.

The teams have seen all the requests, and the 1.3 version of Matter is already being seen on Energy Monitoring compatible Smart Devices released earlier this year, such as the P316.

For devices released before the release of Energy Monitoring via Matter, the feature will be added via a firmware update, starting with the P110M. I have only been speaking with the teams for the last few days on the topic, so I am not sure where in development the features are - however, they are in the works.
