Why Won’t TP-Link Enable Energy Monitoring via Matter?
I’m using the KP125M, which clearly supports energy monitoring in the Kasa app — but none of that data is available over Matter. It only exposes on/off control. This makes no sense.
-
Matter 1.3 supports energy reporting (W, kWh, etc.).
-
Home Assistant and other platforms support reading this data.
-
The hardware already collects it.
-
The only thing missing? TP-Link's firmware exposing the correct Matter clusters.
This isn't just the KP125M — other TP-Link plugs with energy monitoring also fail to report anything via Matter. That defeats the point of Matter: local control, no cloud reliance, and full device interoperability.
When will TP-Link release a firmware update to fix this?
Right now, you're holding your own hardware — and your users — back.
