Hi Folks,

I just installed this new router yesterday (Wi-Fi 7), and when it's working, it's working well.  But, it's not dependable. What I mean is that it will spontaneously stop working.  When I looked at the router, all the LED lights were out except the power light, which was blinking.  Our modem showed no interruption in our internet. After waiting for something to happen, nothing did, so I powered the router off, waited about a minute, and then turned it on.  It went through whatever it is that it goes through, and now it's working.

Yesterday, when I installed it, I noticed that the Ethernet was sending the internet to my computer even before I set the router up.  Today, when it punked out, the Ethernet was not working.

I need to know that this will be a reliable source of a signal without any drop-outs. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is there something I should do differently?

If this happens again, I have to assume the unit is faulty and replace it.

Thanks, folks!

Marji

P.S.  I'm capable at tech stuff, but I'm not that much of an under-the-hood kind of person.  I can follow directions, though. Thanks!

So did you REPLACE another Router?

Suspect you had one that had the same DEFAULT LAN IP Address for the Router, 192.168.x.1? Is so, that would be why?

However, the proper way to install the router is on Quick Install Guide, https://static.tp-link.com/upload/manual/2025/202501/20250116/7106512027_Archer%20BE400%201.0_QIG_V2.pdf and on it is this:

You should follow the 1-2-3 steps and it pays to power off the device(s) connected to the Router. If you don't some 'old' network info could be retained, and it will be replaced when after the Router is up, turn on the devices.

If you had NOT done the above, then start over and see what happens.

I'd RESET the router also to start over, and once the above is done, follow the Guide to set up the router.

  @IrvSp Thanks for that information!

Yes, I did replace a router.  I had had a Netgear but I wanted more coverage, so I took that one out of service and replaced it with this one.

I followed the steps in the instructions to the letter. I didn't cut any corners, and the truth is, it's working MOST of the time.  That's why I don't understand it suddenly dropping out like that.  It is weird.

I'm hoping that was a one-off and that it never does that again.
