(10/20/2025) AWS Cloud Service Outage Impacting Tapo & Kasa Cloud Video Storage
(10/20/2025) AWS Cloud Service Outage Impacting Tapo & Kasa Cloud Video Storage
Description:
On October 20, 2025, users subscribed to the Tapo/Kasa Care service have no video clips stored on our cloud server due to an outage in AWS cloud services. Some other cloud-based services may also be affected.
Current Status: TP-Link | AWS Outage - Oct. 20, 2025
We suggest paying attention to our Service Status Update to understand the impact of the AWS outage on our services.
For the current and historical status of all AWS services, please visit AWS Health Dashboard.
Note: Your Camera Recordings and Local Device Functions Such as Schedules and Away Mode work without an Internet Connection. If you do not see any clips or events from during the outage, please restart your Tapo App or check your SD Card manually for recordings. Affected Users have reported their clips reappearing in their normal Playback feed as outages resolve.

What Can You Do To Make Your Devices Less Reliant on the Cloud?
Even if a cloud service goes down, many smart devices can still operate and communicate locally—either with your phone or within your home network. While these functions are not a complete substitute for the Tapo App, there are things that you can do to minimize the impact of large-scale outages on your devices and Smart Home
Cameras:
- Record to SD Cards and Not Just the Cloud for 24/7Coverage
- Take Advantage of Hub-Based Recordings to Keep Your Recordings Safe
- Use Your Camera's ONVIF/RTSP Streams with a Third-Party NVR for Another Method of Storage and Viewing
General Smart Devices:
- Choose Devices That Support Local Connections to Secondary Platforms Such as Matter or Apple HomeKit
-
Connect Matter Devices To Multiple Controllers on Your Network (From Your Voice Assistants, TVs, to Even Your Fridge)
Even if AWS or Tapo Services are Down, You Can Still Control Matter Devices Directly Through their Connected Matter Platforms, Whether that be Google Home, Samsung SmartThings, or Amazon Alexa.
Automations and Schedules:
- Schedules and Away Modes are Stored on the Plug and Will Continue Without an Internet Connection
- Tapo Hubs are Able to Take Control of Many Smart Actions, Taking Away Their Reliance on the Cloud, and will work even without an Internet Connection
