Model: Deco BE95
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.1.0 Build 20241217 Rel. 38308

I'm trying to get a functional network configure at 2.4GHZ. The IoT option seems to be perfect for this (I also tried restricting the Guest network to 2.4GHz). When I try to use a 2.4GHz resctricted network on my phone or PC, everything connects just fine on my local Wifi network. However, I have no internet access when using the IoT or frequency restricted Guest Network. The only way I can get the Guest Network functional with the internet is if I allow it to operate at 5 or 6GHz.

I have a lot of home smart devices that only operate at 2.4GHz. Thus far, a lot of those dives work intermittantly. I thought that if I could assign them to a dedicated 2.4GHz band, they would be more stable. Bit I can't get a 2.4GHz band network to connect to the internet. Does anybody know why and what can I do to fix it?

Thanks for reaching out. I understand that you are trying to set up a dedicated 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network on your Deco Mesh system for your smart home devices, but when you restrict the IoT or Guest network to 2.4GHz only, your devices can connect to the Wi-Fi but do not have internet access. This issue is preventing your 2.4GHz-only devices from working reliably.

Here’s what you need to know:

By default, Deco Mesh uses a single network name (SSID) for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, and it does not natively allow you to split them into separate network names. However, there are workarounds using the IoT or Guest network features:

1. Using the IoT Network:
• Open the Deco app and go to MORE > Wi-Fi Settings.
• Disable the 2.4GHz option for the main network (so only 5GHz is active on the main SSID).
• Go to MORE > IoT Network, enable the IoT network, and set it to 2.4GHz only.
• Your main network will now be 5GHz only, and the IoT network will be dedicated to 2.4GHz devices.

2. Using the Guest Network (if IoT Network is not available):
• Go to MORE > Guest Network in the Deco app.
• Create a Guest network and set it to 2.4GHz only.

Important Note:
If you are experiencing no internet access on your 2.4GHz-only IoT or Guest network, please ensure:
• Your Deco system is running the latest firmware. Update if necessary.
• The main Deco unit is properly connected to the internet and is functioning normally.
• The IoT or Guest network is enabled and configured correctly in the Deco app.
• Try restarting your Deco units after making changes.

If you still face issues with no internet access on the 2.4GHz-only network, there may be a configuration or firmware issue. In that case, please try the following:
• Reboot your entire Deco system (main and satellite units).
• Reset the network settings and reconfigure the IoT or Guest network.
• If the problem persists, contact TP-Link support with your Deco model and firmware version for further assistance.

Additional Information:
For Deco models that support 6GHz Wi-Fi, the 6GHz network will have a different SSID by default. You can change the 6GHz SSID to match your main network if you wish, but note that 6GHz roaming works independently.

If you need more detailed troubleshooting, please provide your Deco model and firmware version, and we’ll be happy to assist further.
